The Ceiling – Wild
Feathers
This is a song and band combination that has been gaining
rapid momentum, playing all over the radio (for those seven or eight of you
that still listen to the radio).
Personally, I love their style and look for big things from
them down the road.
Testing 1,2,3 –
Barenaked Ladies
This is a band that most people are actually familiar with,
but unfortunately most people are more familiar with their name than their
sound.
They are popular for songs like If I had $1,000,000, One Week,
and the opening theme to The Big Bang Theory, but I think their best song is Testing 1,2,3.
The song is an upbeat reflection of all the best parts of
the band with a great use of multiple vocalists and cleverly written lyrics.
Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby
– The Counting Crows
Ever since I was little this has been my favorite band, and
this song in particular is my all-time favorite.
I have always felt that Adam Duritz is one of the best
songwriters ever, combining his highly intelligent, almost poetic lyrics with
an incredibly unique voice and beautiful melodies and harmonies.
To me, this is a perfectly written song. It has a driving
beat that keeps the song moving and listeners interested and uses a unison of
layers of melodically played instruments to create a harmony of sounds that
create a large, full sound.
On top of that, like in all of his songs, Duritz’s lyrics
tell a story that adds even more to the already compelling sound of the song.
If you haven’t heard this song before then you’re missing
out on one of life’s little treasures.
In my opinion, of course.
