CHVRCHES on Jimmy Fallon Tonight

Take two of my favorite things; 80s inspired synth-pop and Scotland...and you have CHVRCHES.

The polarity of their sound is probably what first catches the ear:  Heart pounding and dark synth beats provided by Iain Cooke and Martin Doherty balanced out with the mystical voice of Lauren Mayberry.

They also released a new single entitled 'Gun' a few weeks ago and is just another reason why The Bones of What You Believe will be the most anticipated albums of the year for me. Hell, even in the next five or ten years.

Perhaps their greatest released tune is ‘The Mother We Share’. Despite being catchy and powerful in its rhythm, the brilliance shines brightest in the chorus' content.

It’s hard to believe the band from Glasgow is just barely one year old and have yet to release an album.

They released an EP entitled Recover in March and the title track is another pulsating gem that takes a lot of influence from both the drum&bass and even a little bit of the dubstep sub-genres of electronic music. The dynamic nature of their music perhaps has never been stronger than in 'Recover's chorus as the powerful charge of Mayberry's voice matches perfectly with Cooke and Doherty's synth beats.

However, 'Now is Not The Time' is what shines brightest on the EP. In true CHVRCHES fashion Mayberry's lead vocals and Doherty's backing vocals make for an amazing team on a song that sounds beautifully familiar, yet refreshingly new all at the same time.

I had the opportunity the meet Martin and Iain the other week after their show in Austin and it's amazing to see how they've handled their surging success. While they aren't a powerhouse band (yet), they're growing in popularity by the day and it's refreshing to see that they haven't let it go to their heads. We got on the subject of Game of Thrones, as they released a playful version of the theme song, and it sparked a conversation of the now infamous Red Wedding episode.

While most hype bands can't seem to get past a strong first or second release, CHVRCHES keeps delivering.

If you have time, check them out tonight on Jimmy Fallon.
